Obituary of Margaret A. Crews

Mrs. Margaret “Peggy” A. Crews, 79, formerly of Route 163, Fort Plain, New York passed away, Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Arkell Hall in Canajoharie.

Born on January 20, 1939 in Johnstown, NY, she was the daughter of Edward Lachmayer and Bertha McGivern Lachmayer.  She was a graduate of Johnstown High School, Class of 1956 and was a lifetime area resident.

Mrs. Crews assisted her husband in his business, Richard Crews Auto Machine Shop in Nelliston, NY for many years until his passing in 2000.  Mrs. Crews then went to work for NBT Bank in Canajoharie as an Operations Associate.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Freysbush, NY.

Mrs. Crews enjoyed crocheting, puzzles, and watching Hallmark movies.  She loved all children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On December 29, 1962 in Tribes Hill, NY, Margaret was married to Richard C. Crews, Sr. He preceded her in death on June 30, 2000.  Her brother, Edward Lachmayer also predeceased her.

Mrs. Crews is survived by her 2 sons, Richard Crews, Jr. and Shelly of Fort Plain, NY, Robert Crews of Fort Plain, NY; daughter, Roberta and William Winsman, Sr. of Palatine Bridge, NY; 6 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brother, Lawrence Lackmayer of Gloversville, NY; sister, Alice Montgomery of Johnstown, NY; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 26th, 2018 at 10:00am at Fort Plain Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.

Contributions in memory of Mrs. Margaret A. Crews may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078, or Canajoharie Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 28, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
