Obituary of Elaine R. Augustine

Mrs. Elaine R. Augustine, 60, of Maple Ave., Canajoharie, New York passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 4, 2017, at her home with her family, following a long illness. Born on October 21, 1956 in Little Falls, NY, she was the daughter of Elton E. Brownell and Gloria I. Bowley. She was a graduate of FMCC with degrees in Accounting and Nursing. She was a lifetime area resident. Most recently Elaine worked as a Registered Nurse for St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam at St. Theresa's Hall. Previously she worked as a bookkeeper for Dr. Thomas Eagan and prior to that she was the head of Deposit Operations for Central National Bank. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain. Mrs. Augustine enjoyed her pool, traveling, and going on Caribbean cruises. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, baking, bowling, and most of all her family and friends. On April 27, 1980 at the Fort Plain United Methodist Church, Elaine was married to Vance Augustine. She was predeceased by her son, Michael E. Augustine; mother, Gloria I. Bowley; and brother, Elton E. Brownell, Jr. Mrs. Augustine is survived by her husband, Vance Augustine of Canajoharie, NY; son, Christopher G. Augustine of Sharon, MA; daughter, Kelly and Brandon Bevins of Cobleskill, NY; her father, Elton and Janice Brownell of Johnstown, NY; sisters, Barbara and Thomas Petrones of Saratoga Springs, NY, Ellen and Ralph Anadio of Gloversville, NY; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 10:15am at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY followed by the Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, May 8, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
