Mr. Hadley Herman Dillenbeck, Sr., 90, of State Highway 80, Fort Plain, New York died Monday, September 25, 2017 at Ellis Hospital. Born on May 13, 1927, in Amsterdam, NY he was the son of Chester A. Dillenbeck and Gladys D. Neff Dillenbeck. He moved to Hallsville on a farm in 1937 and worked for his dad until 1949. He entered the Army in 1950, serving in the 186th Operation Detachment on the West Coast defense at Camp Baker in San Francisco until 1952. Following the service he worked Construction on the NYS Thruway, Mass Pike, and I81, until he went to work for the Town of Minden Highway Department on January 1, 1961, retiring January 1, 1985. He moved to his current address in March of 1959. In 1954 Hadley was married to Marlene Bailey. They had 5 children, Deborah Lewis, Karen Moore, Harley Niepoth, Hadley Dillenbeck, Jr., and Roger Dillenbeck; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, and nephews. Hadley spent his remaining years with his precious, loving, soulmate, Gloria J. Moore, who predeceased him on December 14, 2013. They met in 1949. In his retired years, Hadley spent most of his time with his best friend, Gerry Gerard and was an active member of the Fort Plain VFW and AmVets. Hadley would like everyone to remember, "Mourn for those who come, rejoice for those who go". A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 1:00pm at The Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 11:00-1:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Army and Fort Plain VFW Memorial Squad.
