Obituary of William James Kretser, Sr.

Mr. William “Bill” Kretser, Sr., 79, of Stone Arabia Road, Fort Plain, NY passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017, at home peacefully, with his family and friends by his side.

Born on January 25, 1938 he was the son of Frank Kretser and Lottie Leavenworth Kretser.  Bill was one of eighteen children.  He graduated from Fort Plain High School, Class of 1958 and was a lifelong area resident. 

Following High School Bill served in the Army for 2 years.

He retired from Town of Palatine in 1998, after working for 50 years.

Mr. Kretser was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed deer hunting, 4-wheeling, and gardening.  In his younger years he also enjoyed playing on a softball team and playing horseshoes.  Bill’s children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.

On September 11, 1966, Bill was married to Angelina Christiano.  Together they celebrated 51 years of marriage.

His brothers, Deward “Dewey”, Melvin, Arnold, and Ralph “Red” Kretser; as well as sister, Irene VanEvera predeceased him.

Mr. Kretser is survived by his wife, Angie Kretser of Fort Plain, NY; sons, Dave & Cindy, Ron & Lorraine, Mike & Melissa, John & Sandy, Billy & Cheryl, Eric Kretser; daughter, Wendy Duesler; brothers, Roger & Jeannette Kretser, Gary & Deloris Kretser; sisters, Geraldine & Dan Nellis, Beverly Cotton; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 1:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, October 14th from 11:00-1:00pm at the funeral home.
